Summer of skate boarding around Maine

In late June and July I had a number of assignments that had me driving the roads between Portland, Augusta, Lewiston and Norway.  I had heard there were skate parks in each of the areas North and West of Portland but had not ventured out to see and ride them.  With some time before and after my assignments I strapped my helmet on, pushed off on my board and went to see what the concrete had to offer. Along the way I met up with some fellow photographers I normally see during the summer and was lucky enough to have a photo taken of me and my friend James Lindley skate boarding Main Street in Norway.  I rarely get my photo taken and to have a  shot of me doing something I love is pretty much unheard of.  My friend Alexia Berry from Boston did a great job to capture this fun moment.

Skate Park Augusta, Maine

A few views from today's visit to Augusta's concrete skateboard park.  We had a great time skating and shooting photos of some of the locals.  This park is still under construction but mostly complete and is a nice addition to the skate park resource in Maine.

New board from Re:Session Skate Shop Portland, Maine

I have been wanting to get a new board for a while now, work and home life have been so busy I have not had the chance to just indulge in some time picking out a board for myself.  Finally today with a few big projects off my plate and a window of time to just chill, I headed down to the Old Port to check out the boys at Re:Session Skate and Snow on Market Street.  These guys have always been super cool to me and I have updated a few old boards with parts from this shop when they were located on Forest Ave as Ride 207.  I was looking for an old school shape with nice concave and they had exactly what I was looking for.  Some new trucks, 1/2" riser pads and some nice and soft 65MM wheels and I was in business with an awesome board to crusie the city with or hit the park.  They put it together while I waited and I was good to go in short while.  I am always happy to shop locally and I am gald I stopped in at Re:Session.  Those guys are cool!

Skateboarding Portland, Maine

Skateboarding was an activity I was heavily into when I was in my early teens and living in New York City.  Fortunately I still have all of my old gear from the day and now I skate with my two sons whenever I get the chance.  Portland recently built a pretty nice concrete park less then two miles from where I live and work.  These days the skatepark has become a great place to let some steam off and recharge the creative batteries.  My boys also love to watch the big kids as they hone their young skills on the features of the park.  This shot was taken in late April as we were experiencing a blast of early summer like weather.  My old Variflex El Gato deck has seen better days and all of the kids love to check it out since it is older then almost everybody at the park on any given day.  With summer approaching I am in the market for a new deck, with a couple of local shops around I am hoping to pick up a new deck soon.  Photos will follow and stay tuned for more skate shots as well!
